First Impression: Clarisonic Mia 2

Clarisonic Mia 2- Light Pink
Retails on amazon.com between $100 and $149
Kit includes: Clarisonic Mia 2, sensitive brush head, travel size cleanser, protective travel case and a charger.

I got this bad boy in the mail last Friday and after waiting 24 hours for it to charge, I FINALLY got to give it a whirl.

The Clarisonic Mia 2 claims to:

  1. Clean six times better than with your hands.
  2. Works with your skin to gently massage away impurities trapped in your pores.
  3. Prepares skin for better absorption of creams, serums and moisturizers.
  4. Gentle enough to use twice daily.

First impression of these claims…spot on and ah-mazing! I can’t believe I waited so long to purchase one. I’ve been using the gel cleanser that came in the kit and after just a few uses my skin feels super clean and very smooth. The Mia 2 brush head is super gentle- I’ve been using it twice per day and haven’t had any issues. My skin doesn’t feel raw or sore and I haven’t had any break outs or blemishes surface since I began using my Clarisonic. However, if a few do surface, I’m okay with it, because I know this bad boy is cleaning years of dirt and oil from my pores. Gross I know, but that’s life. Also, after I apply my moisturizer, my skin feels so amazing, so hydrated-ah, love, love, love. I’ve also noticed a huge difference in my skin when applying my foundation. My foundation glides on so smoothly and the finish looks super dewy and my skin looks flawless. I can’t wait to see what my skin feels and looks like in a few weeks. I’ll keep you all posted.

Taming My Mane

A lot of you have messaged me and asked that I share my current haircare routine and the products I’m currently using to tame my mane. Before I start, I should mention that I have A LOT of hair, A LOT of long hair. Most would think that it’s very thick, however, my hair is very thin in texture, I just have a ton of it, which is why it appears to be so thick. The products that I am using work really well for the amount of hair I have, as well as the texture. Oh, and I also put some type of color in my hair at the salon, so it is colored treated too. The products that I’m currently using vary from drugstore to higher end salon products and range in price from $3 to $23.

The gangs all here.

Shampoo and Conditioner

shampoo & conditioner

Loreal EverStrong Sulfate-Free Fortify System Reconstruct Shampoo & Conditioner

Loreal’s EverStrong shampoo and conditioner are 100% Vegan and Sulfate-Free, containing natural botanicals and no harsh salts. The gentle Bio-Ceramide Complex strengthens your hair and tames frizz. It smells like rosemary and juniper, very energizing- great for those early mornings, the scent really wakes you up. Even though this product is sulfate-free, you still get a nice, rich lather.

Deep Conditioner

deep conditioner

Redken All Soft Heavy Cream

I use this deep conditioner two to three times per week to revive my dry hair. I usually massage this product into my hair, really focusing on the mid-shaft and ends. I let the conditioner sit in my hair for about five minutes, sometimes longer, depending on what styling tools I’ve used on it in between washes.

Prep Tonic

BB Tonic Lotion by Bumble and Bumble

Prep Leave in

it’s a 10 miracle leave in product

Loreal EverStyle Alcohol Free Smooth & Shine Creme (Left) and Redken Smooth Down Heat Glide (Right)

Catwalk Your Highness Root Boost Spray by Tigi

Once I get out of the shower, I towel dry my hair, getting any excess moisture out and then prep my hair for styling. I spray the BB Tonic Lotion on my roots and massage into my scalp. This product contains tea tree oil, so it feels nice and tingly on my scalp and very soothing. My scalp tends to get dry in the winter, so this product is a MUST for me during the winter months. Next I spray the It’s a 10 Miracle Leave in Product to my hair’s mid-shaft and ends. I love leave in conditioners, especially leave-ins that do ten things at once. This product repairs, adds shine, detangles, controls frizz, seals & protects hair color, prevents split ends, stops breakage, provides silkiness, enhances natural body and is also a flat iron spray and thermal protectant. Once I’ve evenly sprayed the leave-in conditioner, I take my wide-toothed comb and gently comb my hair from roots to ends. Once my hair is tangle free, I like to add something to help smooth my mane. If I’m letting my hair air dry, I use Loreal’s EverStyle Alcohol Free Smooth & Shine Creme, but if I’m blow drying my hair (flat ironing or curling), I like to use Redken’s Smooth Down Heat Glide. Both products provide long-lasting smoothness and tame frizz, however, the heat glide protects my hair from the heat of my styling tools. You only need a small amount of each product, as a little goes a long way. If I’m looking to pump up the volume, I’ll use Catwalk Your Highness Root Boost Spray by Tigi  to deliver long-lasting volume. Simply spray this foaming products to your roots and blow dry. This product really puts life back into flat, boring hair.

Finishing Touches

volume powder

got 2b POWDER’ful Volumizing Styling Powder

Redken Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist (Left) and Bumble and Bumble Semisumo (Right)

Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play Volumizing Hairspray

Once I’ve dried my hair and styled with a hot tool, I like to sprinkle got 2b’s POWDER’ful Volumizing Styling Powder into my roots, using my fingers to work the product in. This product is amazing for adding a little va-va-voom to your do. I then spray my hair with Redken’s Glistening Mist to give my hair some shine. If I’ve curled my hair, I’ll use my Semisudo pomade on the ends to separate my curls. I usually rub a very small amount between my palms and fingers and then rub my finger through the ends. If I have any remaining pomade, I scrunch the ends for added hold and shine. I set any hairstyle with big sexy hair’s Volumizing Hairspray- this product has great hold and doesn’t weigh my already heavy hair down.

I know it seems like I use a lot of different products on my hair, but I don’t always use every single product, every single day. Some days I don’t use any product and some days I use them all. It just depends on what hairstyle I’m wanting to achieve and where I’m going or what I’m doing.

What haircare products are you currently using?

Also, be sure to check out my blog on Monday, as I’ll be having my very first giveaway- yippee!!! Super cute spring goodies for one of my lucky followers- cha ching.

Love It or Lose It Thursday

Today’s Love It or Lose It features St. Ives Fresh Skin Invigorating Apricot Scrub

St Ives

Retails at Target for $2.99 + tax.

I’ve been using this scrub every morning for a little over a week now and I love the results I’m feeling and seeing. My face feels super cleansed, smooth and has a beautiful glow to it. My foundation (or BB cream, depending on the day) glides right on and sits beautifully on my freshly exfoliated skin. This product is oil-free, non-irritating, dermatologist tested, includes 100% natural exfoliants and natural extracts and is also made without any animal ingredients- that’s good news for our furry friends. To use, simply moisten your face with water, dispense a quarter size amount of product on your fingertips and massage over you face, avoiding your eye area, rinse with water and follow with your favorite moisturizer. Ta-da- beautiful smooth, glowing, radiant skin. This product is an ABSOLUTE L-O-V-E and totally worth all  two hundred and ninety-nine pennies.

Splurge or Save?

If you are anything like me then you constantly struggle with the back and forth foundation debate…high end or drugstore? Sometimes I wish the decision was as easy as choosing to have that second cup of coffee or indulging in that second piece of chocolate cake (did I just say that). Needless to say, when it comes to foundation we look for two major things, coverage and staying power. Once we find a product that meets these requirements, we hold tight and never let go, regardless of price or the measures we take to ensure our vanity is always stocked with a back-up bottle. Although I like to indulge in expensive foundation every once in a while, it isn’t always affordable or easily accessible. I tend to spend my time roaming the aisles of Target and Super Walmart, snagging diapers and baby food for my nine month old on a weekly basis. With that being said, reaching for a drugstore product is easier and more convenient. Don’t get me wrong, I can spend a Sephora gift card faster than it took to purchase one, but unfortunately it isn’t a place I frequent (and window shopping online daily doesn’t count) unless I’m spending said gift card or holiday/birthday money. The point of my rambling is that a girl has to have options; the option to splurge or the option to save.

Here is a splurge option for those moments that your Sephora gift card is burning a whole in your pocket:

Natural Performance Foundation by Lorac
*Retails at Sephora for $36 +tax.

Here is a save for those responsible moments when diapering and feeding your child is more important than spending an arm and a leg:

Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation by Cover Girl
*Retails at Walmart for $9.47+tax.

Before Foundation (yikes!)

After Foundation
(Left- Cover Girl and Right- Lorac)

Can you tell the difference? Both foundations deliver full coverage and long-lasting wear and when applied to your skin, they look exactly the same. The only difference, the price tag.

What beauty products do you splurge on and what products do you save on?

Spring has sprung…kind of

I am SO ready for Spring. Winters in Wisconsin can be VERY long, especially when you have back to back weeks of snowfall- grrr. I guess I shouldn’t complain too much, afterall our winter has been pretty mild compared to years past. Anyways, enough about the weather and on to much more important things like my new go to lip look for spring. Over the weekend I decided that I needed to shop away my winter blues and decided it was time for some fun spring lip colors. I picked up this lipstick-lip gloss-match-made-in-heaven-duo… introducing Revlon’s Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Pink In The Afternoon and Revlon’s Colorburst Lipgloss in Crystal Lilac.

Revlon Pink in the Afternoon

Retails at Walmart for around $4.97.

Retails at Target for around $6.49.

I will say that I’m not much of a lipstick gal. In fact, I reach for lip gloss most days of the week. However, Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick is super moisturizing, super creamy and feels very lightweight- I didn’t feel like I was wearing any lipstick at all. This product is available in 82 shades, so the possibilities are endless (at least until you’ve purchased all 82 shades). Now, on to the gloss- yay! The lip gloss has incredible shine and amazing color pay off. The formula glides on smoothly and evenly and has a weightless feel. The gloss isn’t sticky and delivers a lot of moisture so KUDOS to that. This product is available in 15 vibrant shades-I can’t wait to pick up Bellini, Peony and Sizzle for spring and summer.

What are your go-to spring and summer shades?

I can’t live without my…

COVERGIRL and OLAY Simply Ageless Eye Corrector

I am without a doubt, head over heels in love with this eye corrector. The soft, creamy texture infused with Olay Regenerist Serum feels simply amazing on my skin. The product glides right on and blends without much effort. The coverage corrects even the darkest circles. Let’s face it, dark circles make a girl look old and tired and who wants to look like an older, more tired version of their amazing self? Not this gal. If you’re looking for more coverage, you can wear this product under a concealer. I am currently wearing my corrector over my foundation; however, both techniques will give you a brighter, more youthful look. Don’t stress about choosing the right shade because the corrector is only available in one shade, number 230. The product retails between $11 and $13 (depending on where you purchase it) and is money well spent. If you’re tired of fighting with your dark circles, then this product is a must. I honestly can’t live without mine.

Love It or Lose It Thursday

Today’s Love It or Lose It features Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick.

Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick is highly pigmented and delivers a long lasting wear…and that’s about it. In my opinion this product is a fail, unfortunately. Not only does it retail for $22 a tube, it doesn’t own up to it’s specs. The product claims to be weightless and creamy and is supposed to deliver intense moisture to hydrate and soften your lips. I felt like my lips got really dry and cakey- no me gusta. Although the lipstick is available in a variety of highly pigmented matte and shimmer shades, that isn’t enough. I have the lipstick in Bellissima which claims to be a pale neutral pink, however, it’s more of a nudey, orangey beige, which I don’t love. I also have Fiore which is a very hot pink and although I do like the color (in the tube), I don’t like how it looks on my lips. Unfortunately I didn’t find ONE thing that I liked about this product, other than how Fiore looks in the tube. Sadly, I have wasted $44 (plus tax) on a product I’m not in love with and not sure I’ll ever use- womp, womp, womp. In my opinion, this product is a definite lose (unless of course you’ve already spent the Benjamins and can’t bare to throw it away).
